Tweeters,
I spotted a Lazuli Bunting on a small Douglas-fir on our property in Roy last Sunday, and finally got to check the area this evening - I'd been out birding other places the past few days. Sure enough, down near the wetland, a male was singing from the top of a young Oregon ash. Pishing brought it closer. It sounded off for a couple of minutes, then flew to other song perches, in turn, nearby.

I'll keep tabs to see if a female is around, and I'm hoping for a breeding pair.

A HOUSE WREN appears to be nesting in a swallow nest box in about the same territory occupied by the bunting. If both species actually are nesting here, it'll be a first for Avian Acres since we built our home down here in south Pierce County.

These two species are joined here by another bird more often found east of the Cascades - CHIPPING SPARROW. We have at least two breeding pairs on our site.

If you're looking to add one or more of these species to your Pierce County list, send me a note and I'll let you know if I'll be here.

May all your birds be identified,
Denis DeSilvis
