A raptor attack would leave some pretty obvious holes from the talons.? Lacking those, I'd lean to a mammal.? Attacking the back and maybe tearing off feathers sound pretty doggish. The predators I have problems with are 'coons and 'possums.? But, they tend to kill them.? Not killing it sounds, again, doggish as they might just grab and drops they are more interested in catching and not eating.? Coyotes, too, love chicken.

Can someone help me answer a mystery? ?One of my chickens was unfortunately attacked yesterday. ?I want very much to believe it wasn't my dog (and I'm 99% certain it wasn't, but there are other dogs in the neighborhood). ?My question is...the chicken sustained heavy damage to it's back, and nowhere else. ?Would that be consistent with a raptor attack that was perhaps a near-miss or one that was interrupted?
