Regarding Barn Owls in and around Seattle and other heavily urbanized areas, around 2006 I saw one near the Duwamish wetlands (where the White Pelican was last fall) not far from the 1st Ave. S. bridge. This is a heavily industrialized area, but if an area has rats and somewhere for the owls to roost they can probably live there. That said, I still drive through that area quite often and haven't seen one since then.

Last year I had a possible sighting of a Barn Owl along I-5 near the old Rainier Brewery/West Seattle bridge exit.
