I tried to locate a Scott's Oriole that was reported to have been seen
behind the Education Center off Colorado Ave on Joint Base Lewis McChord.
Yesterday, Rod Gilbert (a biologist at JBLM) and I tried unsuccessfully to
find it, and my hour-and-a-quarter search today was also unsuccessful. (I
also searched the area just to the east of the parking lot.) Since the day
was nice, but cool, I decided to count what I did see, which I then posted
to eBird, and which is included below.

Comments: This is the south-facing slope of Miller's Hill on Joint Base
Lewis McChord, right behind the building/parking lot of the Education Center
building on Colorado Avenue. The hill climbs sharply upward, and is mostly
fenced off due to some remediation efforts and for the black bears that have
been spotted there. The first part of the slope has been cleared off, but
Scotch broom, grasses, and one lone black cottonwood are there. The parking
lot has some maples planted around it, and also some Douglas-fir are on one
part of it. The rest of the hillside is forested: bigleaf maple,
Douglas-fir, Oregon white oak, pacific madrone, and associated understory. I
was there to check on a report of a Scott's Oriole, but after two days and
about 3 hours total searching and playing songs, no response.
