Tina and Tweeters,

The "Baikal Teal" was found on March 7th near Nanaimo, and seen again by
several birders on Saturday morning. Some distant, slightly fuzzy photos
were taken on Saturday. However, current opinion is that this is a Baikal
Teal hybrid-- probably with a Northern Pintail. Russell Cannings, who
originally found the bird and posted it on eBird (plus messages to several
BC e-mail groups) appears to have concluded that it's a hybrid and withdrawn
his report to eBird.

Subject: [Tweeters] Baikal teal

I got an ebird alert yesterday about a Baikal teal being seen on Vancouver
Island, but it wasn't on today's daily alerts, nor could I find anything
about it on the BC list serves other than the original posting form the 7th.
It is not posted on the ABA rare bird face book page. I couldn't find any
negative reports either. Has any body heard, seen or know any information
about this sighting? It is a great bird, but a long way to go for what could
be a wild duck chase.
