Hi.

Not sure anyone else will see this on tweeters - my account got deleted a while ago.

Can you help me locate some birders in the Tri-City area? I was down there this weekend and saw a Yellow-billed Magpie in Pasco. Yes I know - they are supposed to be endemic to Central California. I worked in Central California as a seasonal avian field biologist in 2005 for Point Reyes Bird Observatory, and I was stationed at the San Joaquin River NWR so I know these birds very well. The bird I saw had a yellow bill and yellow under the eye and was seen off Road 68.

I have not heard anything the past few years that would lead me to believe that they have extended their range, and I have seen no mention of this on tweeters (may have missed it). I would love to have some birders start checking the magpies in the area and see if we don;t have a few of them in the Tri-City area.

Any help you can provide me on finding birders in that area would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, Tweeters!
?
??????????? I was fly fishing out in eastern WA yesterday (Thursday) and saw numerous small flocks of Sandhill Cranes flying overhead (the flocks were composed of 10 to 30 birds).? I wasn?t counting, but I?d guess I saw around 300 Sandhill Cranes total during the five hours I was fishing.? I was fly fishing Powerline Lake (a few miles south of Scooteney Reservoir, southeast of Othello), and the Sandhill Cranes seemed to be congregating north of Powerline Lake, maybe in the water just west of Camp Lakes.? I can?t be positive about the location, as the small flocks were flying every which way, but generally they seemed to be going in that direction and the majority of calls I heard came from that direction.? Just love the ancient-sounding guttural calls of those cranes!
?
Good birding!
