Hi Tweeters & Inland-NW-Birders -

An updated version of the 2014 county year list project is up at Washington Birder. We've received updates from almost all the counties with details through the end of February. County compilers, especially for the underbirded counties, would appreciate receiving reports of any birds seen in their counties.

The posted version of the list only covers results through the beginning of March -- obviously, this is a time of year when every week brings new spring arrivals, so the present totals are likely higher than what's listed here.

As of the end of February 258 species had been reported across the state, 229 species in western WA and 190 in eastern WA.
The state total [258] is three higher than the end-feb totals in 2013 and two higher than in 2012 and 2011.
The Western WA total [229] was one higher than the total for each of the past 3 years.
The Eastern WA total [at 190] this year was three below last year, but above 2012 and below 2011.

Overall, though, things are remarkably similar to the last few years at this stage. This is particularly surprising given the rather arbitrary seasonal timing of this cut off date.

If you'd like to take a look at where things stand, the list and many other interesting files are at the Washington Birder website:

Thanks to all the compilers and all those pitching in to begin to sketch a picture of another year's birds in WA.
