This morning I had a nice close study of a male Red-shafted x
Yellow-shafted Flicker hybrid at Montlake Fill / Union Bay Natural Area in
Seattle.

The malar mark was thinner than usual and contained a mix of red and black
feathers. Above the malar mark in were some tan feathers. Most or all of
the flight feather shafts were bright yellow.

The bird was in the area of fields and ponds within the main loop trail,
southwest of the Urban Horticulture Center.
