Good morning Tweeters -

What an amazing dawn chorus this morning as I stepped out to look in on our little hummer (ok, it was 8am - a little past dawn...). As brisk as it was, you could definitely tell spring is in the air. There she was - her head and tail extending out past the edges of the nest, sometimes wiggling to adjust to her brood.

Just wanted to mention this hummingbird book that I have that seems to have the best information on the phases of nesting, brooding, fledgling I can find. "Hummingbirds: Their Life and Behavior, A Photographic Study of the North American Species" by Ester and Robert Tyrrell. It includes much scientific info along with stunning photographs and detailed drawings.

Our little hummers are nearing two weeks old. Mother still feeding, but starting to see some little bills reaching up to meet hers. This next week should be very exciting.

Happy Spring everyone!

Caryn / Wedgwood
