Tweets, Saturday morning I went to Mima Mounds Preserve hoping to find the
reported bluebirds. I counted at least 8 Mtn Bluebirds, 4 males, in the
vicinity of the start of the southern loop trail (south of the observation
ramp) and eastward toward the edge of the fir forest. A kestrel spooked
them around 11am and 9 birds took flight -- I wonder if one might have been
the single Western IDed by Deborah West. I thought they took cover high in
the firs but I could never find them again. Nearby I heard a sparrow call
that has me wondering about Vesper Sparrow. In the SE quadrant of the loop
I heard a distant Savannah Sparrow, FOS for me. Beyond the south end was a
N Shrike. Plenty of meadowlarks singing, a lovely morning! Good birding!
