Hey Tweets...While driving on the beach late this afternoon I found 10
marbled godwits feeding right in front of the Quinault Beach Resort amongst
a larger flock of peeps. These are the first of the year for me and a sure
sign spring is finally here.

Also received word that the nest box Dan Varland erected to entice a local
pair of peregrines has become the new nest for a great horned owl. It is
atop a pole in the NW corner of the Hoquiam STP. That explains the calls
and strafing runs one of the falcons was making last week when I checked
the box from across the road. I could not see if anything was in the box;
it was dark inside the nest box and it sits too high above ground level.
The falcon though was clearly disturbed by something in the box, and now we
know.
