I birded Garfield Co yesterday. The best stop was Lower Granite Dam in the afternoon, well worth the long detour from 12. At Ilia Landing was a Greater White-fronted Goose (a code 5 bird according to wabirder.com), 2 Barrow's Goldeneye on both sides on the river (Whitman and Garfield) and a lingering Northern Shrike. The gravel bar just downstream of the dam yielded several Common Mergansers and 3 common species of gulls. A nice Harlan's Hawk was at the Casey Creek inlet to the Snake River.
A flyover Bald Eagle scared up scads of regular ducks at the Meadow Creek estuary.
Several Chestnut-backed Chickadees were very active along Pataha Ck Rd. Also, just like the day before in Columbia Co, one singing Pacific Wren. The higher elevations were not birdable yesterday due to the howling winds. What fun it was ...
