The City of Kenmore asked me to lead Nature Walks through Wallace Swamp Creek Park. The inaugural walk took place this morning.
I had some trepidation about leading a group. Personally I get great enjoyment walking through the park even on the days when the birds refuse to show themselves. I was concerned what would others think if it was a slow day?
I needn?t have worried. Right from the parking lot we had great views of a perched Anna?s Hummingbird, a singing Song Sparrow and a pair of American Goldfinch chasing each other. Other highlight included two pair of Bushtits collecting nesting material (we saw one of the nests), American Robins delivering food, very close looks at a Red Breasted Sapsucker, and my FOY Warbling Vireo, and American Crows squabbling over what appeared to be a spawned out Cutthroat Trout. Perhaps best of all we finished before the rains came.
Total Species count =18. We might have found more but not everyone was wearing rubber boots so we stayed on the paved trail and only walked about half of the park.
