Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On May 1 a male COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD was photographed at a Vancouver feeder.
A male LAWRENCE?S GOLDFINCH was photographed May 3 at an Ashland feeder. On
May 3 a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported at SW 39th and Alice in
Portland. It could not be relocated. A May 1 offshore boat trip found six
ASHY STORM-PETRELS and six PARAKEET AUKLETS off the southern Oregon coast.

Heavy migrations during the week brought the colorful WESTERN TANAGERS,
BLACK-HEAD GROSBEAKS and BULLOCK?S ORIOLES. An unusually large number of
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD reports were reported this spring from the Willamette
Valley and Vancouver area. WARBLING VIREOS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and early
SWAINSON?S THRUSHES were also reported during the week. A heavy movement of
PIPITS was reported along the coast.

On May 6 a RUDDY TURNSTONE and a RED KNOT were at Bandon A LARK SPARROW was
reported May 3 coming to a Seaside feeder. Over a thousand WHIMBRELS and a
number of MARBLED GODWITS were seen during the week near Astoria in the
field along Wireless Road.

On May 3 a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was near Canby. A WRENTIT was seen May 6 at
the Tualatin NWR. On May 1 five WHITE PELICANS and five CASPIAN TERNS were
at Baskett Slough NWR. A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen during the week at
Camp Adair north of Corvallis. A SWAINSON?S HAWK was over Corvallis May 4.
On May 3 a FRANKLIN?S GULL was at Fern Ridge Reservoir. Four BLACK-NECKED
STILTS and three BLACK TERNS were there May 6.

On May 4 a SANDERLING was at the mouth of Hood River. A BROAD-WINGED HAWK
and a HOODED ORIOLE were reported May 3 at Fields.
