Sunday, May 4, we finally got our first of year AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES. A
single male/female pair has visited each day since then.



Monday, May 5, first of year BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, a female. The next day,
we saw the male. By Thursday, May 8, we had 4 males and one female in the
yard.



Today, Friday, May 9, the new bird-friendly and zone-appropriate landscape
in our front yard was completed. The hummingbirds have tasted all 50
gazillion flowers on the Evergreen Huckleberry shrubs, Bearberry, Hardy
Fuchsia and Salvia. I can hardly wait to see them when the other flowering
plants open up in a few weeks! We have both ANNA'S and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS
fighting over the plants and both of our nectar feeders.



One of the most aggressive male Rufous Hummingbirds I've ever encountered
has claimed the newly transplanted Japanese Maples as his guarding posts for
the front-porch nectar feeder. There are pictures of him on my flickr

Two crows harassed our neighborhood male RED-TAILED HAWK several times
today until he finally flew off toward the Columbia River.
