I am home very late after a two day birding trip along the Washington Coast
from Tokeland to just north of Kalalock.

Yesterday I walked to the end of the Brown's Point Jetty where two
HEERMANN'S GULL were sitting. As I turned to head back both birds took off
and flew to the north. There were three WANDERING TATTLER and one SURFBIRD
on the jetty. Off the jetty there were many Common Tern flying about. At
Bottle Beach yesterday there were 58 RED KNOT and an assortment of
shorebirds. At the Johns River Wildlife Management Area boat launch a
single BLUE-WINGED TEAL was viewable from the boardwalk. I could not
locate the Arctic Loon previously reported from Tokeland.

Today at Midway Beach there were two PECTORAL SANDPIPER and two WILSON'S
PHALAROPE. It was great to see these birds in breeding plumage. Other
shorebirds present were GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WHIMBREL, LEAST
SANDPIPER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and WILSON'S SNIPE. Four BLUE-WINGED
TEAL, two CINNAMON TEAL and one GREEN-WINGED TEAL were there as well as
many SORA and one VIRGINIA RAIL.

On Midway Beach over two thousand SOOTY SHEARWATER flew by and one
PARASITIC JAEGAR flying along very close to the breaking surf. In Olympic
National Park at South Beach Campground there was one SOOTY SHEARWATER and
several BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE.
