I birded the Capitol State Forest west of Olympia this morning for a couple of hours and ran into Chris Warlow's group near the top. He pretty much said it all in his posting: The birding is fantastic there right now. I also had several Sooty Grouse, Hermit Warblers, Gray Jays (at the intersection C-line & C4000) and Townsend's Solitaires. Grab a good map (or at least take a picture of a map at one of the forest entrances). The map in Opperman is generally not good enough.
A singing Nashville Warbler on territory was at the intersection B-line and B-5000. Westside breeding Nashvilles are highly unusual.
Hammond's Flycatchers were thick at Mima Mounds SP. The openness of the forest around the parking lot makes them VERY easy to see.
Back in Lewis Co, the Discovery Trail at the end of Goodrich Rd north of Centalia yielded a Bullock's Oriole (in cottonwood about 200yds north of where trail splits), a Lazuli Bunting was just east of the river on Galvin Rd. Both are code 3 birds according to wabirder.com.
