Subject: [Tweeters] From the Fill

Hey tweets, the Fill was celestial this morning, as the rising sun painted the clouds first deep purple, then pink, and gold. A cloud bank hid the sun itself for awhile, diffusing golden light over everything. I have never seen the Fill so beautiful. Every grass stem and leaf was gilded.

The LAZULI BUNTING male who showed up yesterday continues to forage along the south part of the Loop Trail. Today he was pecking at gravel. A female BUFFLEHEAD was asleep on Water Lily Cove and didn't wake up for anything, even when two Gadwalls splashed down beside her, spraying her with water droplets. The pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS who have been hanging out at the north end of Main Pond were still doing so - wouldn't it be terrific if we got baby Ring-necked this year?? Though to have that happen, I would think somebody ought to get busy actually sitting on a nest instead of floating in the water or standing on boughs. Finally, a PILEATED WOODPECKER came winging in from the west to forage at East Point and Yesler Swamp.

I'm still completely overcome by the Great Egret that floated through the Fill yesterday. In its honor, here is a poem for you today:

Now I know
what "gleaming" white means,
for I have seen the Great Egret wing
sunlit against stormcloud
as purely white
as any night star.
