I've been out of internet for the last few days, camping at Fort Flagler (Marrowstone Island, across the water from Port Townsend), and Saturday, Sunday, and Monday there was a HOUSE WREN singing his little heart out from conspicuous perches in the shrubs across from campsites 6 and 7 in the upper loop. I recorded the song onto my phone and I'll try to get it put somewhere people can listen to it. Very clearly a wren, clearly not a Bewick's nor a winter/pacific slope, and the bubbly house wren song is unforgettable.

I don't know if this is unusual around here or not. It's certainly the first house wren I've seen since coming to Seattle in 1991. Sadly, there were no females to be interested, and as of this morning (Tuesday) he was no longer singing there, but he may return. The beach held a dozen or so GB Herons, several dozen pigeon guillemots, three whimbrel and a killdeer this morning.
