Tweeters,

It's turned out to be an exceptional day for birding in my Battle Ground,
Clark County yard today. The storms that have been passing through all day
have repeatedly rejuvenated bird activity and have shuffled things up a
bit. Watching the leading edge of these storm clouds resulted in a few
unanticipated sightings.

Highlights:

BLUE-WINGED TEAL 1 (female flew by and landed in the neighborhood pond. A
three minute walk to the pond allowed me to rule out Cinnamon Teal). A
first for the yard and year yard bird #102. This wasn't even close to
expected!

Turkey Vulture 11 (I've never seen more than 1 between mid-April and
mid-September from my yard so the loose flock of 11 moving south along the
edge of a line of storm clouds was very interesting.)

RED-SHOULDERED HAWK - 1 (immature being mobbed by an American Crow). This
is the fifth sighting from the yard and my first Spring record - year yard
bird #101. Bird was missing 1+ inner primaries on both wings.

Bald Eagle 1 (with the Turkey Vultures)

Band-tailed Pigeon 2 (latest Spring record for the yard)

OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER 1 (video'd - This is the first one seen from my yard
since June 2, 2011. All 6 previous records have been between May 26 and
June 4) - FOY-yard - #99 year yard bird

Willow Flycatcher 1
Western Wood Pewee 1

PURPLE MARTIN 2 (only the third sighting from the yard. Two apparent
sub-adults working the leading edge of a line of storm clouds - FOY-yard -
#100 year yard bird)

Swainson's Thrush 3

Warbling Vireo 1+
Black-throated Gray Warbler 2+
Wilson's Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1
MacGillivray's Warbler 1 (my fourth one of the year - this isn't an annual
bird for my yard so four this year is pretty amazing for me).

Lazuli Bunting 1
Lesser Goldfinch 3 (daily)

Lastly, one lone Canada Goose flying VERY high northeast to southwest -
don't know what was going on there.......

oh, and the reason I went outside to look for things:

Black Swift - ZERO

Keep your eyes and ears skyward!
