Hi Tweeters,

Today I was out in the Wenas (Yakima County) and found a very unexpected
flock of 9 Pine Grosbeaks along Maloy Road near Cow Canyon. This is south
of the Wenas Campground. This road is normally gated to public access but
the gates are open now for hunting season. The grosbeaks were feeding on
dwarf mistletoe berries in the ponderosa pine trees in Section 16, a DNR
section. There was at least one adult plumaged male and 4-5 female/immature
plumaged birds that I got good looks at with my binoculars. Later in the
day while I was leaving around 4:00 PM I saw four of them flying into
private property in Section 15 north of Maloy Road. This is an unusual
species for this area.

We are also seeing large flocks of Pine Siskins in the Yakima area. I had a
flock of about 21 at my house this morning east of Yakima in Terrace
Heights, which I think is the largest flock I have seen here. It is nice to
see Pine Siskins returning to the area after a long spring/summer hiatus.
