Nancy and I had just completed the monthly bird census of the park on behalf of Eastside Audubon and were climbing into our cars (at the small pond/north parking lot), when I noticed a large bird directly overhead, about 300-400 feet up. I put my bins up, thinking it would likely be a Bald Eagle the park locals have told us about. Much to my delight, I saw a bright golden head, a large area of golden under tail coverts, and a dark terminal band! Just wish Andy and Carol hadn't already left for a meeting :-(
