This afternoon my son David and I saw and photographed several small groups of Ancient Murrelets along the beach on the west side of the spit within a mile or so of the bluff. When foraging they were darting around just under the surface, at times just beyond the surf line within 30 feet of the beach. Several times we heard them calling - short whistled "peet" and trilled "teetle- eet" calls. We also had Marbled Murrelets nearby for comparison. Best views I've ever had of either species - an exciting day.
