Rosario Beach State Park & Whidbey Island

November 14, 2014

Hi Tweets,

Barbara and I were joined yesterday, November 14, by nine enthusiastic
birders for a Seattle Audubon field trip to Whidbey Island. We had clear
sunlit skies all day, light breezes at points, and temps ranging from the
low 30s to the low 40s. We began at Rosario Beach State Park, then moved
onto Whidbey Island, birding first at Dugualla Bay and then at the Oak
Harbor Marina. Following a coffee stop in Oak Harbor we continued to Joseph
Whidbey State Park, Bos Lake, Hastie Lake Landing, and Libbey Beach County
Park. Afterward, we continued south to the Keystone Ferry Terminal,
Crockett Lake, and made our last stop at Deer Lagoon.

Highlights included LONG-TAILED DUCKS at all of the westside stops, a
fly-by of a half-dozen BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS spotted by Teri at Libbey
Beach, 3 MARBLED GODWITS spotted by Scott at Deer Lagoon, a Code 5 species
for Island County. Also, it is possible that the Code 4 YELLOW-BILLED LOON
reported on November 7th may still be in the area of Libbey Beach County
Park, but it was too distant for us to identify for sure. Several sharp
observers pushed our group's consolidated list for the day to 95 species.

Good birding!
