For the second weekend in a row, I had a female-plumaged Pine Grosbeak fly over my South Seattle backyard:? about 8:00 this morning, and again at 9:30 or so (same time as last Sat.)? Each time, it feeds in a lone, rather scraggly madrone tree (see map,) before flying south across the powerline cut to several other madrones, all on private, inaccessible property, but reasonably visible from the powerline cut.??? This morning, it was chased off by a cantankerous robin, jealously guarding the few remaining berries. If anyone cares to try for this locally cool bird, there is a parking spot big enough for two cars on the north side of Ruggles Street, right before the dead end.? It's just past the laurel hedge, on the left, across from the Seattle City Light sign.? THe gravel road on the right is a private driveway and yard, so no parking there!? Feel free to knock at the gray-blue house for a point in the right direction.
