Sherry and I ventured down to Nestucca Wildlife Refuge this morning. Drove to the parking area, walked over to the observation deck, and had the BEAN GOOSE, thanks to all the other birders. Now that?s the way a rare bird chase should be. It is hanging out with Dusky Canada Geese, and there was one leucistic Canada Goose present. The refuge is on Christiansen Rd. off Hwy 101, about 30 miles north of Lincoln City, and just south of Pacific City.
We slowly worked our way home by taking Hwy 101 North, and driving the scenic routes. We made a stop at Cape Meares Lighthouse, where we found
RED-THROATED LOON - many
WESTERN GREBE - many
RED-NECKED GREBE - 1
COMMON MURRE - 2
SURF SCOTER - many
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER ? several
BLACK SCOTER ? 2
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER ? 1
PELAGIC CORMORANT ? many
BROWN PELICAN ? 1
