Subject: [Tweeters] Port Washington Narrows Today

It was a good day for a walk along the path at Lions Field, which is right
next to the Port Washington Narrows. Lots of Surf and White-winged
Scoters, Bufflehead, Common and Barrow's Goldeneye (yup, both), a grebe sp.
(either Horned or Eared, am leaning towards Eared but couldn't see it that
well) and wigeon. There were about 30 widgeon, with at least two Eurasian
among the American. Plus the usual gulls and crows, which I didn't look at
carefully.

A few years back the Parks Department totally messed up the wigeons' area
at Lions Field--there's no more protected area for them to congregate. We
used to have them in the hundreds and could guarantee several Eurasian
Wigeon among them, they were pretty much a gimme. These days you're lucky
to see a few wigeon, and generally they're in the water rather than on the
grass.
