Two recent bird records show that one should never be too limited in thoughts about what you may see out there! Yesterday, I was walking near Port Angeles and along the downtown shoreline ahead, a flock of crows worked the beach and a larger, brownish bird foraged among them which I took to be a juv. gull, until the binocs disclosed it to be a hen Ring-necked Pheasant, certainly new to me in the heart of the city. It slinked into the beach grass as I approached.

This morning, getting out of the car at Helen?s Pond near Three Crabs outside of Sequim, the very first bird of the day was a gorgeous Yellow-headed Blackbird with a blazing yellow throat and breast, a pretty hard to find species in this part of the State.

In the bird world anything can happen at any time, and those who are observant are constantly surprised by what they find!
