Hello Tweets,
After seeing an eBird report of some birds I still need in Snohomish County
(namely American Three-Toed Woodpecker and Mountain Chickadee) last weekend
from Alan Knue, I decided to hike Johnson Ridge out to Scorpion Mountain,
north of Skykomish this morning.

Highlights were:
Mountain Chickadee - Single relatively early on hanging out with a flock of
Chestnut-Backed's. I had one on the way back, but I think it was the same
bird as it wasn't too far away.
Pine Grosbeak - Flock of seven perched in plain view calling away for about
five minutes as they harassed a Pygmy Owl.
Northern Pygmy-Owl - At least three, but likely more. Many tooting on the
hike out. On the way back I had good looks three birds in the middle of the
day in bright sunshine and get some great photos. One even spit out a
pellet as I watched.
Barred Owl. One flushed from a meadow and landed nearby. I was surprised to
find this bird at 5,000 feet.
Crossbills - One large flock and one or two pairs. All flyovers. The large
flock was our standard type 3 or 4, but the pairs were not a type I
recognized. They actually sounded very much like White-Winged Crossbills,
but I never even got a look at them to confirm that, unfortunately.

No Three-Toed Woodpecker, in fact the only woodpecker I encountered was a
Flicker. Plenty of habitat out there so it could still be around.
