The last two winters groups of Ruddy Ducks (high count = 41) have spent the winter on Lake Joy. Today six appeared. There is a public access from which the entire lake can be scoped or a kayak could be launched. The access consists of a trail that is somewhat difficult to find. There is no boat launch. To find the access go left where Lake Joy Drive splits at the Lake Joy sign. At the steep downhill you will see a yellow fire hydrant on the right. You can park on the side of the road. The trail is slightly uphill from the hydrant. There is a King County sign which is also difficult to see.

If you go a little further on Lake Joy Drive, you will find a road on the left that leads to Moss Lake, a King County Park. There is parking and toilet facilities. You could leave your car at the LJ access and walk to Moss Lake birding along the road. My wife once saw a porcupine while walking this road. I can send a map of the trails around Moss Lake via e-mail to those who would want one.
