Hello, tweeters.

A Rough-legged Hawk fitted with a radio transmitter in Kolguyev, Russia, is now apparently in the Seattle area. It could have been hit by an airplane and carried all the way, as it seems extremely unlikely to have made it on its own. But if you see such a bird with a transmitter or hear about finding one dead, I would appreciate knowing about it! Sorry I don?t know what color it is.

Martin Wikelski is well known as a researcher who has traced the migratory paths of numerous species using the latest terchnology.

> Hi Dennis?.you interested in going on a wild goose chase, or siccing Seattle birders on it? See below?..if I had to guess, this bird got whacked by an airliner and made it from Russia to Seattle that way?.transmitter probably fell off someplace over in Redmond. But maybe not?.I'll ask Martin whether the signal is still moving around or if it's stationary.

>> Dear Tom,

>> Uschi and I just met John in DC at NSF, and he reminded me that you are now in Seattle. Cool!! BECAUSE ? one of the juvenile Ruff-leggeds made it from Kolguyev to Seattle. Unbelievable, and that?s why we need your help!
