After last night's wind storm, I decided to check the Edmonds marsh and waterfront to see if anything of interest blew in. There was a first-of-fall Eurasian Wigeon drake (code 3) among the 100 plus American Wigeons foraging in the high water. The ongoing Wilson's Snipe (code 3) put in an appearance. Sixteen Cackling Geese (code 3) flew south over the marsh. The several Dunlins (code 3), first found October 18th and seen multiple times since then, were present this morning. Also on the 18th, there was a Eurasian Collared Dove (code 3) and, for the marsh, a high number of 8 American Coots (code 2). On October 20th a formation of approximately 40 Greater White-fronted Geese (code 3) flew over the marsh.

The waterfront this morning was blustery, with waves rolling from the south and lots of white caps farther out. There was a first-of-fall Common Goldeneye drake near the large flotilla of Surf Scoters. There were 12 Black Scoters (code 2) outside the Underwater Park near three Pacific Loons (code 2). There was a Common Loon (code 3) flying to the north. A Western Gull (code 4), with its darker gray mantle, was at rest on the north breakwater among some Olympic gulls. There was a first-of-fall Bufflehead on October 17th and a Red-breasted Merganser on the 18th. The most recent Parasitic Jaeger (code 3) sighting was on the 18th.

There is an ebird report of a Spotted Sandpiper in the marsh on October 21st with an accompanying photo of a Dunlin. I am not certain if the wrong photo was embedded in the checklist or if the observer only saw a Dunlin.

There having been no new species seen recently, we remain at 177 for the year.
