Tweeters,
Tom Merritt, Sue Connell and I spent the day at Nisqually. Great day of
birding, quite cool in the morning due to a foggy sky that eventually
cleared up nicely.
Highlights included a Western Meadowlark, 3 Green Heron, A nice flock of
American Pipits, 1 Great Egret, and some shorebirds including a Baird's
Sandpiper seen at very close range.
One of the Green Herons landed out in the open area in the mudflats to
the north of the visitor center and proceeded to raise the feathers on
the top of it's head and display. Had not seen that type of behavior
before.
Great new knowledgeable park employee that I hadn't met before. Really
enthusiastically into birds. Adds very nicely to the experience. He's
young with dark hair and is very much worth talking to before you head
out.
All the best
