Hi Tweets,
Sorry for the late posting but got home late last night. Stimulated by the reports of good birds at the coast, Steve Caldwell and I did a quick day trip from Ocean Shores to Tokeland yesterday. Our best birds were 3 Stilt Sandpipers on the east side of the Hoquiam settling ponds, reported already by several people. We also found the first year Franklin's Gull at North Cove around 5 pm, having learned ths morning that the bird had been seen earlier yesterday by Jim Danzebaker and Co. At the turnout beach west of the Tokeland Hotel, we found Caspian and Common Terns but no Elegants there or anywhere. The Tonquin Ave access to Ocean Shores Game Range produced the 5 Pacific Golden Plovers reported earlier. The only new bird we can add to the recent spate of good sitings is a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK seen along Paulson Road as we left the Hoqiuam settling ponds. The bird was perched on the north side of the road in a fairly low-to-the-ground brushy tree. It appeared to be an immature bird.
