Birds at the Burke

Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture

Discover more about the birds in your backyard and around the world with the Burke's ornithology collection and visit live birds on the Burke lawn. Explore the museum with a unique indoor bird watching experience and afterwards make your own bird feeder! Information will be available for birders of all ages and experience.

Special programs:


* Get "up-close and personal" with owls, hawks and eagles during live bird shows with Yakima's Raptor House Rehab Center <http://www.raptorhouse.org/> at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2:30 PM.
* Revel in the beauty of owls and woodpeckers with award-winning photographer and author Paul Bannick<http://www.paulbannick.com/> at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
All-day activities:

* [cid:image009.jpg at 01CFD80B.C4914B90] Examine hundreds of bird specimens, including rare and delicate bird's eggs with their nests.
* Make your own bird feeder and more hands-on activities.
* Learn the basics of birding during a special indoor bird watching experience.
* View Burke collections of Owls, Penguins, Woodpeckers and other specimens.
* Learn how you can be involved with Citizen Science Projects.
* Watch as scientists prepare birds for research.

Information for birders of all ages and experience levels will be provided by the Burke Museum Ornithology<http://www.burkemuseum.org/ornithology> team along with our community partners-Seattle Audubon<http://www.seattleaudubon.org/sas/>, Puget Sound Bird Observatory<http://pugetsoundbirds.org/>, and the Washington Ornithological Society<http://www.wos.org/>.

The Burke Museum is located on the University of Washington campus, at the corner of NE 45th St. and 17th Ave. NE. Hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily, and until 8 pm on first Thursdays. Admission: $10 general, $8 senior, $7.50 student/ youth. Admission is free to children four and under, Burke members, UW students, faculty, and staff. Admission is free to the public on the first Thursday of each month. Prorated parking fees are $15 and partially refundable upon exit if paid in cash.
