Hi Tweets,

Here's my monthly eBird report of what our group saw this morning at Eastside Audubon's Lake Sam bird walk. Alas, no SABINE's GULL :-((

Lake Sammamish State Park, King, US-WA
Sep 24, 2014 8:02 AM - 11:32 AM
Protocol: Traveling
3.5 mile(s)
Comments: Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood birded with 8 others at Eastside Audubon's monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park on Sep 24, 2014, from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. It rained the entire time, and did we, the "intrepids," ever get WET! However, temps and wind were mild, so it didn't feel cold (low to mid 60F, and 0-3 mph). HIGHLIGHTS: Enjoyed a nice assortment of birds near and on the lake: GADWALL, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN SHOVELER, RING-NECKED DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, COMMON MERGANSER, RUDDY DUCK, PIED-BILLED & WESTERN GREBES. One GREEN HERON was fishing on the edge of Issaquah Creek south of the foot bridge. An OSPREY is still there. We enjoyed 2 separate COOPER'S HAWK sightings (an adult female and a male). 39 KILLDEER! We had five separate sightings, spaced apart both in time and location (likely in migration). RING-BILLED and CALIFORNIA GULLS continue to lounge at the east beach and hang out further on the lake. At least 180 BARN SWALLOWS filled the skies for the duration of our walk. Ken heard a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET singing. Just two warbler species today: YELLOW-RUMPS & COMMON YELLOWTHROATS. SAVANNAH SPARROWS are still around, and the LINCOLN SPARROWS & GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS have returned. 48 species for the day; and 129 species for the year. The next bird walk is OCT 21. No pre-registration, just show up depending on your mood or the weather. Since this is a state park, a Discover Pass is necessary to park ($10 daily, $30 annual). We meet in the large parking lot to the left just inside the main park entrance, now signed as the Costco Parking lo,t but we meet at the far end towards the lake (not the boat launch entrance).
