Tweeters,
Birded around the house and wetlands to the east below the house. Periods of
rain; little wind; 60 degF. Highlights include about 30 VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOWS passing through and feeding over the wetlands; and a large flock of
EVENING GROSBEAKS feeding on the cones in the remnant Christmas-tree-farm
noble-firs on the property. eBird report below.

Turkey Vulture 2 Seems late for this area - were coasting over wetland

occasionally - local breeders

Steller's Jay 7
Western Scrub-Jay 1
Violet-green Swallow 30 I was stunned to see these swallows - came in
from the north and were catching insects over the wetlands below the house.
I didn't see any other swallow species with them (although it's possible
that a Tree Swallow was among the VGSW, I couldn't determine that). All the
birds I saw were VGSW.

House Finch 6
Purple Finch 3
American Goldfinch 2
Evening Grosbeak 80 The grosbeaks are feeding on the noble fir cones,
and have been here for over a week with numbers varying between 20-90. This
group was fairly easy to estimate since a Sharp-shinned Hawk came through,
flushing the flock -- I would have thought about 30 grosbeaks were feeding
otherwise.
