Hello Tweets,

I stood and sat in the Bothell from 10:45 AM to 1:45 PM without success. There were siskins, crossbills, juncos, Song Sparrows, towhees, Steller's Jays, crows, Anna's Hummingbirds and even an adult Bald Eagle and bright male Red-breasted Sapsucker. But the Black-throated Blue Warbler was not seen or heard.

I think there's a very good chance that after a fine, pleasantly warm winter in Bothell, he decided to leave and head back to wherever vagrant Black-throated Blue Warblers return to breed. Ontario, perhaps? Ohio? Maybe he'll even head north into British Columbia or Alberta and visit the boreal forest for the summer. Spring has sprung, and the lengthening daylight has likely given him the urge to wing his way home.

I would have liked to see him (I was on the edge of my seat in hopeful anticipation all week, waiting for the weekend to rescue me from school), but I'm at least glad that such a handsome bird was seen by so many lucky people. And see him they did! He was apparently quite the confiding male, because all of the photos I've seen have been wonderful.

Even though I did not see the warbler, I still left a no-melt suet block and a bag of birdseed on the patio steps as thanks to the homeowners for welcoming us into their yard.

As a consolation prize, I saw my FOY Ospreys on my way back from Bothell. They were sitting on their nest platform just west of I-405, and just northwest of Overlake Hospital.

Good birding as always, Joshua Glant
