Subject: [Tweeters] conclusion on the "Cassin's Vireo song"

Amy asked me about any purple finches hanging about, and I do have them
here, several in fact. I had noticed earlier this late winter, that they
make a lot of strange songs and calls, and I had a bit of a time trying to
figure out who it was, before I caught them red handed. And in
re-listening to the recorded vireo, it seemed a bit less fluid than the one
outside, so I do conclude that it was indeed a Purple Finch.
I have new birds, and its going to take some time to get to know their
calls, the tones and quality of singing now. However, no matter the fact I
have 7 acres, of which most is forest, I do miss my old yard; as it had a
lot of bird activity right out the front door. So as soon as I get a water
feature, I do hope to get the natural habitat planted in the back of the
house, as the 1/2 acre our back yard is bare.
It is nice that a few days after we cleared some overgrown cottonwoods
that had gotten out of control, the remaining brush pile became the home of
a towhee pair. All the birds seem to find it wonderful...
