Started at Renton Cedar River Park, Horned Grebes starting to turn to mating colors. Reports of Bald Eagles, none seen.? Few DB Cormorants, in the distance.? Relatively sparse birding.
Blackriver in Renton was a little better.? A pair of Wood Ducks made a quick appearance, before disappearing into the underbrush. Great Blues were hunting the ponds, but no sign of nesting in the old Heronry.? (No sign of the Eagles nest as those branches appeared to have broken-windstorm?).?? Otherwise the usual suspects, C. Geese, Mallards, Buffleheads, PB Grebes, and the occasional GW Teal, Gadwall.?
Kent Boeing Ponds were very interesting.? A small flock of Ruddy Ducks, 2 males and 6 females diving and head bobbing.? Great show from a Greater Yellowlegs!? Plus N. Shovellers, N. Geese, A. Coots and VG Swallows. (May have been more, failure in note taking)
Des Moines Marina Park was the best.? Large number of Brant (life list for me).? Among the other attractions, C. Mergansers, B. Goldeneyes, Horned Grebes, P. Guillemots , C. Geese, Surf Scoters and various Gulls (my bad).
Saltwater State Park is NOT closed, but looks like it.? (Go around all the construction)? Found a Loon (couldn't ID due to silhouetting).? Both Eared and Horned Grebes (I think, they were in transition to mating colors), along with Surf Scoters, Goldeneyes and various Gulls (I need to study Gulls more....)??
Oh yes, the Bald Eagles nesting west of Puyallup, just off Pioneer, are sitting on their nest, presumably in eggs.?
All in all, a beautiful day.??? (Sorry for the delay in writing this, my second post)?
