Subject: [Tweeters] Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Eagles Pride Golf Course

Tweeters,

The 29 folks participating today were treated to some fine sights, including
a well-observed BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, GREAT HORNED OWL, and other FOY
species as indicated below in the eBird report. The OSPREY was not only a
FOY, but a first for this forest/golf course bird walk, bringing the
all-species count to (I think) 96. I have to validate the numbers with our
Eagles Pride sponsor, Dave W, who was running in the Boston Marathon today -
he was probably having a good time, but missed some really nice birds back
here.

Future walk dates and info are shown below in the "comments" section.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis

Apr 16, 2015 8:00 AM - 11:35 AM

Protocol: Traveling

2.95 mile(s)

Comments: 36degF (downright cool) and clear to start, warming up to over
60degF when we finished -- a gorgeous day with the largest group of birders
that we've had since we started this walk (April 2013). (Today's 29 folks
included a reporter and a cameraman from Joint Base Lewis McChord.)
Highlights included a well-seen-by-all BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER feeding
among the branches of a young big-leaf maple, and a GREAT HORNED OWL fly
past us about 50 yards away. Other FOY birds including VIOLET-GREEN and BARN
SWALLOWS; ; BAND-TAILED PIGEON; RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER; PILEATED WOODPECKER;
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER; COMMON YELLOWTHROAT; CHIPPING SPARROW; and
BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD. In addition, and new to this birdwalk, we had an
OSPREY flyover and (we assume) return to soar around another spot of the
route.

The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at
8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf
Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the
following:

. May 21

. June 18

. July 16
