I was busy minding my own business today ( which was watching plankton) at the Marine Science Center here in Port Townsend ,when I heard a Purple Martin overhead! Hearing a Martin always makes me feel good.
The Marine Science Center dock sports a number of Purple Martin houses, which seemed to me last year to be pretty successful : note, this is not science, just based on my seeing a lot of Martins around the houses all the Martin season. .
Yesterday I heard my FOY Caspian Tern here in PT. Caspian's are around here, but scarce compared to the hoards back in Mudville (AKA Everett). But if there is a Caspian in your town, you're gonna hear about it. I love birds that make sound ID easy.Another of those is the Eurasian Collared Dove, which started hooting loudly here a bit more than a week ago, and a pair has been visible in the 'hood since then.
Lots of Little Green Birds still around town - i.e. Orange-crowned Warblers.
