Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On April 14 a BROWN THRASHER was reported in Brookings. A bright male
COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD is now visiting a Bend feeder.

The heavy migratory movement continued through the week bringing many new
species. An impressive WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE movement was noted from the
Klamath Basin northward through western Oregon. Heavy movements along the
coast brought thousands of PACIFIC LOONS, with a flock of over 5000 on the
ocean off the Sea Lion Caves the morning of April 20.

Shorebirds were conspicuous with large numbers of WESTERN SANDPIPERS. Among
them were a few SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS. On April 17 a SOLITARY SANDPIPER
was near Gold Beach. Six SOLITARIES were in Corvallis April 19. That day
about 200 WHIMBREL and a few MARBLED GODWITS were along Wireless Road in
Astoria. On April 21 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was found in the flock. Another
LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Ankeny NWR April 20. Two AVOCETS were at Fern
Ridge Reservoir April 22.

On April 18 eight WHITE PELICANS were on Sauvie Island. That day an early
SWAINSON?S HAWK was over the Camassia Natural Area in West Linn. An early
SWAINSON?S THRUSH was in Eugene April 15. A possible FRANKLIN?S GULL was
reported April 20 at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A SNOWY EGRET was in Eugene April
18.

That?s it for this week.
