I saw Bob's post and stopped by (sort of on the way home) around 11:30. A
group of 10 at the start (one disappeared and another seen swimming away)
included two Clark's Grebes which mostly stayed at opposite ends of the
group. Even from a distance but in good light and with a better scope than
yesterday, four features stood out between the two species. Eye exposed
below the black cap vs hidden within; orange rather than yellowish bill;
thinner black stripe behind the neck, which from a distance gave it a paler
look; overall paler back, light gray vs medium gray esp around the sides.
Since my camera was at the car (I thought) and the distance wasn't conducive
to decent photos, I headed around to the LaFramboise Road access for a
"closer look" which didn't materialize. But there were many more grebes
nearer the east shore in very distorted light, possibly 20 more. Worth a
look before it warms up and the rowers get active.

Pied-bills

Yesterday Randy and I had 38 wegr and thought a couple were candidates for
Clark's. This morning there are 16 much closer at the flushing channel and
two are Clark's.
