Hi Tweeters,

I swung by the Marine View Dr. log boom in Pierce County today around 2:30. I actually pulled into the turn-out just south of the Dick Gilmur Memorial Public Access spot near a street sign for NE 4800. I immediately found the Ruddy Turnstone feeding on the beach along with a flock of 19 Black Turnstones. I also observed 3 more Black Turnstones on the logs. Here are the species that I observed, both on the beach, the logs, and the water:

5 Canada Goose
4 Mallard
1 Common Merganser
Double-crested Cormorant1
Ruddy Turnstone
19 Black Turnstone
2 Least Sandpipers
Glaucous-winged Gull
2 Belted Kingfisher

I also stopped by Boeing Ponds, arriving around 3:30 and saw the following species:

13 Canada Goose
Mallard
3 Hooded Merganser
4 Pied-billed Grebe
1 Great Blue Heron
2 Green Heron: Sitting on a dead bush overhanging the water. Still partly in juvenile plumage. 1 flew a short distance to another bush, so able to fly.
7 American Coot (3 were immature, 1 of which was rudely bitten on the rump by a female mallard)
1 Spotted Sandpiper
1 Long-billed Dowitcher
1 Eurasian Collared-Dove
1 Belted Kingfisher
3 Black-capped Chickadee
3 Bushtit
2 Cedar Waxwing
Several White-crowned Sparrow

Good birding,

Lonnie Somer
