Subject: [Tweeters] The Nuthatches

A few minutes ago, sitting on my back porch after work, I heard a faint
birdy noise and turned to my left to see a mating pair of Red Breasted
Nuthatches whispering sweet nothings to each other on the railing of the
porch no more than a couple yards away. I noticed the individual on the
right was puffed up, which I later read in my Birders Handbook was probably
part of a courtship display.

After about a minute of enjoying being so close to two birds I don?t see
quite as often in the yard, *they turned on me.*

Both flew right at my head, one at a time, like little red-breasted barons,
and both I fended off with my laptop (browsing craigslist). They retreated
to the roof of my house right behind me to watch me as I struggled to grab
all my things and get the hell inside.

I went into the backyard a little later to look for a stump or something
nearby where there might be a nest? meanwhile chickadees gathered around
me, cheeping menacingly. No sign of a residence. I retreated.

I?m having flashbacks of a certain gory Hitchcock scene. You know the one.
Stay safe everyone.
