Over the past few weeks I have noticed there is a tree in my neighborhood where house finches are roosting. It is a large Douglas Fir, one of the tallest trees in the neighborhood. As it gets closer to sunset small groups of finches begin flying in from all over the neighborhood. It doesn't take long before the tree is full of finches-- at least 75-100-- getting settled and making quite a ruckus. I have never heard of house finches roosting communally before. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
