Tweets ? the Stilt Sandpiper gave great views late this morning in the biggest pond at Eide Rd. in Stanwood. For a while, it was foraging right next to a Lesser Yellowlegs, and it was amazing to see how similar in shape and size they were. The Stilt stands out from Lessers by its much thicker, slightly drooping beak, its pale but strong eye line (and slightly rusty cap to the head), by the much more boldly marked back, and by the faint peach wash over its breast.

There were lots of Greater Yellowlegs, and occasional flighty flocks of Least and Western Sandpipers. Also, about a dozen Green-winged Teal.

I head a Merlin there early in the morning.
