Sometimes nature does a home delivery, which is nice. At the moment I am being serenaded by a House Wren in the hedge just outside my bedroom window, here in Port Townsend. I only had to move about 2 ft from my chair to spot it. I haven't heard all that many House Wrens over the years (having spent most of the last few decades mostly in western Washington) but have a few times here in PT over the past 18 months. I guess House Wrens like it around here.
So, anyway, the House Wren song is still sort of a novel sound to me. Up since the break of dawn, the morning bird sounds were pretty sparse this morning, so the wren is a real standout. Actually, it seems like no other bird could get a note in edgewise since the wren is filling the airwaves with a remarkably sustained song. Long-winded little thing!
