I was looking for a reported black phoebe, not seen, on Kiwa trail Ridgefield NWR and saw what looked for brief seconds a feha. I saw a long- flat profile winged bird soaring at first looking through my binos and ,detected a white based tail with red at the tip. I immediately set my scope and of course the bird went into a dive down and I had a hard time picking it up in the scope. I did get a brief look as it flattened out what I saw was a light head, light underwings with a dark spot where the underwing coverts meet the primaries.

Wish I could have seen it earlier when it was soaring but that is the way it goes!

Birders on Sauvie Island should be on the look out since Bachelor Island is across the river.
